Here is my preview of the final quarter final game of the tournament. Lets talk about the obvious favourites for this game. Spain would definitely enter this game as favourites. Spain started brightly in the tournament, thrashing Russia 4-1, beating Sweden and Greece 2-1. Topping the group, they will meet Italy tonight in the quarter final. Spain also has the top scorer of the tournament in the team. David Villa netted a hat-trick in the opening game against Russia and scored a last minute winner against Sweden. Spain probably has the most balanced squad in the tournament. In goal, Spain has one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Iker Casillas. Casillas is a proven shot-stopper in the La Liga and would be important player in the team. In defence, Barcelona Carlos Puyol forms the defensive rock. Spain also has attacking full back Sergio Ramos who produced a great display of football. In midfield, Xavi dictates the play with young and promising winger David Silva going down the left. Upfront, they have one of the most feared striking force. Euro top score David Villa and Liverpool marksman, Fernando Torres.
Spain's opponent need no introduction. 4 times world champion and 1 time European champion, Italy. Italy had one of the worst start in the tournament, crashing to the Netherlands 3-0. Their second game did not get any better, drawing with Romania 1-1 after Buffon pulled off a wonderful penalty save. In the final game, there was a repeat of the 2006 World Cup final when Italy beat France to secure a quarter final spot. In goal, Italy also has one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Gianluigi Buffon. In defence, Italy is still suffering from the loss of captain Cannavaro. In midfield, Italy suffered a heavy blow when Pirlo and Gattuso were shown their second yellow of the tournament against France. However, they still have their No.10 Daniele De Rossi. Upfront, Italy has Bundesliga top scorer, Luca Toni. Although Toni has yet to open his scoring account in the tournament, he could still be a problem to the Spanish defence. Towering at 1.94m, Toni raise above every Spanish defender including the goalkeeper.
Being a Spain supporter, I will be rooting for the Spanish tonight. But the world champions will be no pushovers. This is probably the biggest game in the tournament so far. Lets hope for a great game of exciting football. I will go with Spain for a 3-1 victory.
