Spain 3 Russia 0

Haven't got time to blog recently so here's my summary of the match between Spain and Russia. This match was a repeat of the opening game in Group D. The Russians will be looking to take revenge for the humiliating 4-1 defeat when the 2 countries met in the opening match. With midfield playmaker Arshavin on form, the Russians looked to cause the Spaniards some problems. For the first 34min, both teams played to a stalemate. Then, the Spanish received a big blow. David Villa had to leave the pitch because of a strain after taking a freekick. This did not look like the right time to lose your top striker and top scorer of the tournament. Coming in for Villa was Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and what an impact he was going to make in the game. With his introduction, Spain look lively in midfield and in the 50min, a great through ball from Iniesta found Xavi who made the score 1-0 to Spain. The Spanish were having a great game. Puyol was winning challenges from the Russians attack, keeping Casillas trouble-free. Sergio Ramos was making blistering runs down the right causing problems for the Russians. Senna was marshaling the midfield while substitute Fabregas was having a FAB-ulous game. In the 73min, Fabregas provided a beautiful pass over the Russian defence to find Guiza one on one with the keeper and making the score 2-0 to Spain. There seemed no coming back for Russia when Fabregas provided again. This time, David Silva benefited from the pass and scored the goal that would definitely book a place in the final for Spain. Full time score, Spain 3 Russia 0. It seemed like the Russians will always be 3 goals behind the Spanish. So, the Germans are next and I will be glued to the tv for the final showdown. Venido En Espana!
