Yes, by the time you read this post, Spain is officially the champions of Europe! Wooo!! I am very proud of the team that I rooted for from the beginning. Here are my thoughts on the final. Both countries entered the stadium in Vienna for a big showdown. Joachim Leow made only one change to his side, bringing back Frings into the centre of midfield. As for Spain, Luis Aragones replaced the injured Villa with Fabregas and played a 4-5-1 formation. There were many players to look out for in this match. For the Germans, the key man would have to be Ballack who want to end the final jinx after being on the losing end in 4 finals. Podolski and Schweinsteiger would be looking to continue their impressive performance down the wings. For the Spanish, captain Iker Casillas would want to keep another clean sheet in the tournament. Fabregas who had a great display against the Russians would want to continue with the form. All eyes will be on one man, Fernando Torres. The media had came out to criticize the striker's performance in the tournament. Torres had only one goal in the tournament and had been subbed out in every game he played. Playing alone upfront, Spain will be relying heavily on him to deliver. On this final stage of the tournament, Torres had finally silenced all critics by netting the winning and only goal of the match. That moment came 33min into the game. Xavi made a through ball beyond Lahm to an on running Torres. Torres used his pace and strength to get the better of the German left-back and with a delicate chip, he put the over Lehman and into the net. That was a superb technique! It may look easy but when I saw it in slow motion, it was exquisite. Torres was off balance when he scored the goal and that made the chip even more difficult to execute. The Germans had their fair bit of possession and created numerous chances with Klose missing the best chance when he was played one on one with Casillas. Fabregas, who was tipped to be the key figure of the game was surprisingly quiet in this game and was replaced by Xabi Alonso in the 63min. Torres was again taken off 78min but this time, his job was done. With that solitary goal, Fernando Torres ended Spain's 44 years wait for a major trophy. He also made Luis Aragones the oldest coach to win the title. Spain has finally shrug off their "underachiever" tag. Spain totally deserve to be champions of Europe. They had a great team consisting of many great young stars. Could this be the changing point for the Spanish side? I hope so. Viva Espana!
